Battle이라는 그자체가 나랑 안 맞는다. 난 배틀들을 별로 좋아하지 않는다. 배틀에서는 정말 연습에 충실했고 정신적으로도 준비가 되어있다면, 그사람이 우승을 한다는게 안봐도 뻔하다. 크루배틀에서는, 자기 크루멤버들과 더 연결되어 있을수록 배틀에 보여줄게 많아진다. 배틀을하는 건 정신적인것이다!
KOREAN ROC:
What makes you angry in B-Boying?
B-Boying을 하면서 화가나게 하는 것은?
CLOUD:
Just the respect level. It kind of made me angry today because people tried to come in and do their moves when it wasn’t their turn which is very disrespectful. If that happened in the States, there would’ve been a riot; people from the stands would come out and start fighting. I was surprised that there wasn’t a fight today! If Korean B-Boys came to the States and did such a thing, it would become very ugly!
리스펙에 관한 차이이다. 오늘 나는 좀 화가 날뻔한게, 자기 크루의 무브가 끝났는데 난입하는 것이다. 그건 정말 존중과는 거리가 멀다. 미국에서 그런일이 있었다면 그건 말로서 끝나지 않았을 것이다. 구경하는 사람들도 나와서 싸움이 났을 것이다. 오늘 싸움이 벌어지지 않은게 정말 신기하다! 만약 한국 비보이들이 미국에 와서 똑 같은 행동을 했다면, 정말 보기 싫은 광경이 펼쳐졌을 것이다!

Did you have any hard times in your Breaking life?
춤을 춰오며 힘든때가 있었나요?
CLOUD:
Not really, I started Breaking when I was about 10 or 11 and my oldest brother knew how to Break so he showed me like windmills and stuff. When you are introduced to something, you get to see it everywhere haha. I was exposed to the scene after my brother has taught me moves and it came quiet natural to me. It wasn’t challenging much at all. But hard times of it would be when I started to grow up. I was really short back then but at a certain age, I started to grow up. My arms and legs got longer and my body wasn’t used to the moves that I did before. So that was the toughest part.
그런점은 없었다. 10살인가 11살때부터 춤을 시작했는데 우리 가족의 맏형이 춤을 가르켜줬다. 윈드밀을 보여주고 그랬다. 뭔가에 딱 관심을 가지게 되면, 세상에 그것 밖에 보이지 않는게 있다. 형이 보여주고 나서 나는 Breaking scene에 발을 들여놓기 시작했는데 뭔가 정말 자연스러웠다. 힘들거나 그렇지는 않았다. 힘든 점이라면… 내가 성장했을 때? 어렸을때 나는 정말 키가 작았는데 키가 크면서 팔과 다리가 길어지니까 예전에 했던 무브들이 정말 힘들게 느껴졌다. 그 부분이 가장 힘들었다!
KOREAN ROC:
What have you learned by going through the hard times?
그 힘든시간을 극복하며 얻은건 무엇인가요?
CLOUD:
I learned how to adapt to your downfalls of your body. For example, I broke my left wrist one time, and I started to dance on my right arm which opened up my mind more. So when I got longer, I used that to my advantage. When I was little, I used to be more in which is powerful so when I got taller, I was more out, did more bigger stuff and flowing type of things. That’s what I learned!
몸에 적응해나가는 법을 배웠다! 예를 들자면, 왼쪽 팔목이 부러진적이 있는데, 나는 모든 무브들을 왼손으로 했었다. 덕분에 나는 오른손을 좀더 쓰기 시작했는데 그러면서 나의 생각이 점차 넓어지기 시작했다. 몸이 길어졌을 때, 그걸 장점으로 활용하기 시작했다. 작았을 때는 좀더 안으로 집중되는, 파워풀한 무브들을 했는데 키가 크고나서는 더 커보이고 흐름이 잘보이는 무브들을 하게 되었다!

Tell us about the relationship between Music and Breaking.
음악과 Breaking의 관계는 무어라고 생각하십니까?
CLOUD:
They are one. If you are not in tuned with the music, then you are not dancing from inside because music is what moves you. Even when you are dancing without music, you have to music in your head. You know you are humming because the music is inside you. Everything about the music like, the beat, melody, high hats and everything else, you can see it clearly by watching a good B-boy who knows music well, it’s like watching a band play. It’s like a track line and the body is everything. Without music, life would be nothing because music is in tuned with EVERYTHING. I think music is the most influential thing that was ever invented. Without music we would be dumb!
하나이다. 음악과 하나가 되지 않는다면 그건 너의 마음속에서부터 나오는 춤이 아니다. 음악이 너를 움직이게 하는 원동력이다. 음악이 없어도, 머리에 음악이 남아있기 때문에 콧소리를 내면서도 춤을 출수 있다. 비트,멜로디 등등 음악에 관한 모든 것은, 정말 ‘춤’을 잘추는 B-Boy를 보면 알수 있다. 그사람이 춤을 추는 것을 보면 하나의 밴드가 연주하는 것같아 보이기 때문이다. 음악이 악보이고 몸이 음계인것이다. 음악이 없었다면 인생은 정말 아무것도 아닐 것이다. 음악은 모든 것과 연결이 되어있기 때문이다! 인간이 발명해낸것중 음악이 가장 영향력있는 것같다. 음악이 없었다면 우리모두 멍청했지 않을까 싶다!

What is Foundation?
당신에게 파운데이션 이란 무엇인가?
CLOUD:
I believe that everybody has their own foundation and it comes from inside. Most people just follow other people so they think that foundation is just basic footworks. I have never followed the average foundation people say, I always tried to look for my own and figured it out for myself and that’s how I was able to come up with my own style. That’s what I look for a lot when I see a B-Boy; I see if they have found themselves. I think Foundation is swirling inside you waiting to be found.
모두가 각자만의 Foundation이 있다고 믿고 그건 자기 안에서 나오는 것이다. 대부분의 사람들이 남들이 하는 말만 따라가기에 Foundation이란 기본 Footwork인줄만안다. 나는 사람들이 얘기하는 Foundation을 따라가본적이 없다. 내 자신이 항상 찾아 다녔고 깨우치려 노력했을 뿐. 그렇기에 나만의 Style이 생긴 것이다. B-Boy를 볼 때 나는 그것을 염려에 두고 본다; 자신을 찾았는지 말이다. Foundation은 자기안에서 움직이고 찾아지길 바라고 있다.

What does dance mean to you?
당신은 큰 행사나 대회등에서 우승보다는 그저 잼에서 사이퍼 나 서클에서 비보잉을 하는걸 좋아하는거같다.
당신에게 브레이킹 이란 무엇을 의미하는가?
CLOUD:
It means everything. To me, B-Boying is dance, I just love all-round dance I don’t favoritism anything because I think every dance is an art form itself and they all are inspired by each other. Nowadays I see many B-Boys using different dance like for example, Ballet. Dancing means everything to me because of freedom of expression.
모든걸 뜻한다. 나에게 있어서 Breaking은 춤이고 그뿐 만이 아닌 모든 춤을 사랑한다. 하나만 차별하지 않는다 왜냐하면 춤을 예술이고 서로에게 영향을 받기 때문이다. 요즘에는 많은 비보이들이 다른 춤에 영향 받은게 보인다, 예를 들자면 발레 이다. 표현하는데 자유로운 면 때문에 나에게 춤은 전부이다!

Sometimes B-Boying gets misinterpreted by the media a lot. Do you have any advice for the Korea B-Boying scene to get better?
비보잉이 상업적수단으로 이용될때 비보잉의 본질적 형태가 왜곡되는경우를 많이봐왔다.
한국의 비보잉문화가 잘되도록 어드바이스를 한다면?
CLOUD:
Stay on your path. I think that Korea is more on point than other countries in the world right now. They are listening to the music, they express their feelings and others man. The States is evolving to some other shit. I’m uninspired when I go to the events in the States because everybody is trying to impress other people instead of dancing and hearing the music. When I came here, I got inspired again. It’s been a while since I got inspired. Don’t forget about the music, don’t forget about the dance and don’t forget about how it makes you feel inside and don’t worry about what others think about.
초심을 잃지 말아라! 내가 보기에 한국은 그 어느나라 보다 잘해나가고 있다고 본다. 음악을 듣고 자기 느낌을 표현하고 등등 말이다. 미국은 뭔가 변해가고 있다. 미국에 대회들을 가면 요즘엔 영향받는게 나는 없어졌다. 남들에게 보여지기 위한 춤을 추는 것 같다. 하지만 한국에 오게되어서 나는 다시 한번 영향을 받았다. 꽤 오랜만이다 영향받은것도! 음악,춤 그리고 그 느낌을 절대 잊어서는 안된다. 그리고 남들의 생각은 신경 쓰지 말아라!

Tell us about the SKMZ 12th year anniversary!
10월 26일에 SKMZ의 12주년 파티가 있는데, 그 파티에 대해서 얘기해달라.
CLOUD:
Our jam is more of a jam where B-Boys can just cypher and throw down. Because most jams nowadays, they are all set up where B-Boys come in and set a battle and you just sit there and watch. I mean those competitions are cool for the public to watch and all, don’t get me wrong! There has not been a jam for a long time where you can just go to a jam and just dance. There’s going to be one competition ‘the 3 chambers of Discipline’ in our jam.
Abstrakt and Teknyc came up with the concept and I don’t know what it is going to be like yet. We are just going to have fun all night and just dance!
이번 행사는 대회보다는 모두가 즐기는 목적의 ‘Jam’이다. B-Boy들이 그냥 Cypher하며 놀고 말이다. 요즘 대회에는 그냥 모두 세팅 되어있는 느낌이다. 비보이들이 오고, 배틀을 하고 관중들을 그냥 지켜보고. 그것도 좋은 점은 B-Boy가아닌 관중들에게 보여줄수 있는 것이다. 하지만 나는 모두들 다 함께 즐길수 이는 그런 Jam이 그립다. 아 이번 Jam에 Abstrakt와 Teknyc이 고안해낸 “ the 3 chambers of Discpline’ 이라는 배틀이 있을 것이다. 어떤 건지는 잘모르겠지만 그날은 정말 모두 즐기며 춤을 출수 있을 것이다!

Any next goals?
크라우드 당신의 다음목표는 무엇인가?
CLOUD:
My goal is film. I’m writing a featured film and I want to be in as a director and an actor. I have been directing short films and music videos and I want to move on and make a featured film. It’s a dance movie; I want to bring ‘Dance’ in the movie as in should be, not like the commercial ones coming out these days.
영화를 찍는 것이다. 영화를 하나 만드려고 하는데 나는 그 영화에 감독이자 배우로 뛰고 싶다. 짧은 필름들과 뮤직비디오들은 많이 해봤는데 이번에는 나만의 영화를 만들고 싶다. 춤에 관한 영화일 것이고 영화에 춤을 도입해보고 싶다. 광고에나 나오는 그런 퀄리티 말고 말이다!
